The
CMYK Color System works with
pigments as opposed to the RGB system, which uses
lights. The four primary pigments are cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Each color in the CMYK spectrum is created by using inks or paints to absorb the energy from white light. White light is a composition the wavelengths of every color, which is why it is white in the first place, The color that is reflected by the canvas represents the energy that was
not absorbed from the white light. For this reason, it is also known as the
Subtractive Color System.
